License Limbo! Sounds like Fun!

I had wanted to do some end of year lists and stuff. When I came across EdChav's MangaCast's post about the license limbo I couldn't help but create a wish list of my own. To read the original post click here. One thing I want to mention is he brings up the fate of manhwa and UDON has one of my favorite titles on their list, Magical JxR. I love this manhwa series and to see it on this list saddens me greatly. To show your love for titles be sure to go out there and purchase those titles so the publisher knows that they can be rewarded by continuing a series.

There are many titles out there that are held by publishers that I really want to be published. These titles are all yaoi titles because the TokyoPop and VIZ titles that I read aren't on this list. This is my most wanted list and I love how Ed suggested appropriate publishers, so I'll follow his lead and name publishers as well!
  • Embracing Love – Youka Nitta (currently with BeBeautiful) – 801 Media
  • Finder Series – Ayano Yamane (currently with BeBeautiful) – Kitty Media (as long as it looks like The Crimson Spell [quality surprised me greatly] and not like the Seiryo books [great smutty title, poor production quality – whew, sorry about the diatribe])
  • Playboy Blues – Shiuko Kano (of course anything by her I want published in English, oh and it's currently with BeBeautiful) – Deux Press
  • Sound of My Voice – Youka Nitta (currently with BeBeautiful) – Deux Press or BLU
  • Yebisu Celebrities – Shinri Fuwa (currently with BeBeautiful) – Deux Press
  • Virgin Soil – Haruka Minami (not on MangaCast's list, but currently with BeBeautiful) – 801 Media
  • Sex Friend – Koreaki Kamuro (currently with Broccoli/Boysenberry) – Deux Press
  • Invoke – Kiriko Higashizato (currently with DramaQueen) – 801 Media
  • Mandayuu and Me – Shushushu Sakurai (currently with DramaQueen) – Kitty Media (again The Crimson Spell quality)
  • Missing Road – Shushushu Sakurai (currently with DramaQueen) – Kitty Media
  • Naked Jewels Corp – Shushushu Sakurai (currently with DramaQueen) – Kitty Media
  • Not/Love – Kano Miyamoto (currently with DramaQueen) – Deux Press
  • OMEN – Makoto Tateno (currently with DramaQueen) – Juné
  • Reverse? – Kazuhiko Mishima (currently with DramaQueen) – Juné
  • Tyrant Falls in Love – Hinako Takanaga (currently with DramaQueen) – BLU

There you have it. Kris' wish list for titles in limbo!

Sorry to disappoint you but Embracing Love wouldn't be getting published again any time soon. Youka Nitta was caught in a tracing scandal around Embracing Love this summer. Since then, the title has been pulled direct links to Nitta's back-catalog from their website and Youka Nitta has left the business. As much as everyone wants to read more of this title, its highly unlikely anyone will be able to get the rights.
Not to mention BeBeautiful legally doesn't have the rights to publish the series since the switch over from Biblios to Libre. Libre issued a notice saying that the company had not negotiated a new contract and that the manga they were publishing/selling was illegal. Pretty much, they were saying it was scanlation we were paying for >.<;; BeBeautiful never said anything about it then and hasn't commented about it since.
So fans are screwed doubly with this title (which I LOVE too): mangaka got caught in a tracing scandal and English publishing company forgot to get a new contract. :'(

@ raintenshi

I am aware of Nitta-sensei's tracing scandal this past summer and the current state of her works. It's terribly sad.

I would like to see someone else acquire the rights to BeBeautiful's catalog, because the scanlation comment you made isn't too far off the mark. Honestly I've seen better scanlations than what I've seen from BeBeautiful and at $15.99 a pop there are other publishers better qualified.

My final point is that this was a wish list, no more no less. So regardless of what really happens with the Nitta-sensei titles I have no say and a girl can dream can't she?

Oh yeah I know. It makes me sad :'( I wasn't sure if you knew what happened because on a few comms I'll all of a sudden see a post from someone asking when the next chapter is coming out ~_~ So you never know if people know about it or not
Yeah, BB's scanlation sucked and I do want to read more of Embracing Love but a tracing scandal pretty much kills any chance of it happening :'( I've seen a few of her other stories getting published by OTHER companies so it looks like we might get to read some of her other titles. ^.^

I know that White Brand is out now published through Juné. I'm surprised by this title because I'm used to sensei's titles being quite sexually explicit and White Brand is pretty clean. But it's not too bad of a manga.

I love Embracing Love but one title that I'm worried about is The Prime Minister's Secret Diplomacy. She's claimed to have quit so that means that the story left off with things dangling. WAH!

I know somethings about the culture of Japan, but is it customary to completely quit when a problem arises? I realy hope Nitta-sensei will change her mind and continue her work. I know she's exceptionally popular over here and we're all clamoring for her work!

Wow. Clean?? Huh well if you can find PG Dr Ten, I guess you can find anything. Lol.

Yeah, quiting is a matter of "saving face". Its possible that Sensei may come back, since she wasn't fire or forced to quit (she seems to have stepped down voluntarily) but it may be a long wait. I also haven't heard of anything since her stepping down so I'm not sure if any of the companies sued or asked for any compensation for damages.
